A Realistic Weekend Deep-Clean Plan
Most weekend deep cleans fail the same way: you start with the fun visible stuff, run out of energy by mid-Saturday, and the kitchen never gets touched. Our crews clean homes for a living, and the order of operations matters more than effort. Here is the plan we would follow in a typical two-bedroom unit.
Friday evening: 30 minutes of setup
Do not clean anything yet. Instead, declutter: clear counters, floors and tables into baskets, start a load of laundry, and soak the stove burners and oven racks overnight in warm water with dish soap. Soaking does half the scrubbing for you.
Saturday: wet rooms first
Start with the kitchen and bathrooms while you are fresh — they take the most scrubbing and the most willpower.
- Kitchen (2–3 hours): spray degreaser on the hood and splashback first, then clear one cabinet at a time. Wipe shelves before anything goes back. Finish with the soaked burners — most residue now wipes off.
- Bathrooms (1–2 hours): apply limescale remover to the shower glass and fittings, let it work while you clean the toilet and basin, then rinse. Grout responds better to a stiff brush and patience than to stronger chemicals.
Stop there. Saturday is done. Ordering food is allowed and encouraged.
Sunday: dry rooms, top to bottom
Bedrooms and living areas are faster because they are mostly dusting and floors. The one rule that matters: always work from high to low, because dust falls.
- Ceiling fans and light fittings with a damp microfibre cloth.
- Shelves, window sills, skirting boards, switch plates.
- Mirrors and interior glass.
- Vacuum everything — including under the bed and sofa — then mop last, backing out of each room.
What to skip
Oven interiors beyond a basic wipe, mattress stains, water-spotted balcony glass and carpet odours all need machines and chemistry that do not live under a household sink. Fighting them with supermarket products usually wastes the weekend's best hours.
If the list above looks like more weekend than you are willing to spend, that is literally what our deep cleaning service is for — a crew does the whole plan in one day while you do anything else.
